Nigel Farage has said the UK could be in “grave peril” if its relationship with the US collapses over the conflict in Iran.

The Reform UK leader was speaking at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon as Donald Trump threatened to destroy the Islamic Republic’s “whole civilisation”.

“I have a major, major worry that the relationship with America is looking very broken,” Mr Farage despaired, referring to the rift that has developed between the US President and Sir Keir Starmer.

“It doesn’t matter whether it’s a Biden in the White House, whether it’s a Trump in the White House. You know, we’ve got to face the fact that without America, we are virtually defenceless.

The latest saga of the dispute has seen US warplanes set to be barred from British bases to launch such strikes, should they be sent to critical civilian infrastructure in Iran.

Putting himself in Sir Keir’s shoes, the Reform leader said: “Provided I receive satisfactory answers to those questions, I would say the continued use of our bases was the right thing to do.

“I think for us to finish up breaking the alliance with America would put this country in very grave peril.”
