Two people have been arrested after a 10-year-old girl was left seriously injured following a vicious dog attack in Bolton on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to Roseneath Road in the Great Lever area shortly before 3.30pm after receiving reports of the incident.

Paramedics provided treatment to the young victim at the scene before she was transported to hospital by ambulance.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the child’s injuries are considered to be life-changing.

The attack took place on a residential street in the Greater Manchester town – prompting a significant emergency response.

Armed Response Vehicles along with the GMP Dog Unit were dispatched to the location, where officers secured two dogs involved in the incident.

The deployment of armed police underscored the severity of the situation facing emergency responders.

Both animals were detained by officers at the scene as part of the police operation.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman confirmed: “Armed Response Vehicles and GMP Dog Unit were deployed, and two dogs have been detained.”

The emergency services worked together to manage the aftermath of the attack, with the young girl receiving immediate medical attention.

Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the attack.

A 28-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possessing a dog dangerously out of control.

Both suspects remain in police custody as detectives continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The force spokesman confirmed: “A 28-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a dog dangerously out of control, and are currently in custody.”

Officers will maintain a visible presence in the Great Lever area while enquiries proceed, providing reassurance to local residents following the distressing incident.

The breed of the dog involved in the incident has not yet been disclosed by the authorities.

The horror attack comes just months after the death of a nine-year-old girl in southeast Wales.

The dog behind the attack in Gwent was later revealed to be an XL bully – registered before a ban on the breed was introduced.

A Dog Legislation Officer officer confirmed the pooch had been put down in the wake of the death.

The dog was believed to have belonged to the baby’s relatives, whom the child had been visiting alongside his father.
