Jennifer Sey, the former elite gymnast and current advocate for women’s sport, has condemned transgender BMX rider Chelsea Wolfe after the American athlete celebrated the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk and told protesters at a women’s cycling event to “go suck a sawn-off shotgun.”

Sey — now CEO of XX-XY Athletics, a brand campaigning to protect female sport — said Wolfe’s social media posts and recent outbursts should come as no surprise.

“It isn’t surprising that Wolfe celebrated the assassination of Charlie Kirk,” Sey told the Daily Mail.

“He furthers the false idea that a ‘trans genocide’ is underway in order to justify murder. There is no genocide.

“I’m not saying he shouldn’t be allowed to say what he wants, but there are social consequences — and being banned by USA Cycling should be the first one.”

Her comments follow a string of explosive incidents involving Wolfe, 32, who first attracted controversy in 2021 when she wrote on Facebook the “goal is to win the Olympics so I can burn a US flag on the podium.”

The athlete later clarified that they cared “deeply” about the United States and wanted to “stop fascism,” but her history of provocative remarks made last week’s reaction to Kirk’s killing all the more incendiary.

In one Instagram story, Wolfe shared a USA Today report on Kirk’s death alongside a cartoon of Dora the Explorer saying “We did it!”

In another, Wolfe posed for a selfie with a thumbs-up and wrote: “Being a Nazi is completely optional btw. He didn’t have to do all that, but he did and now he’s dead.

“Don’t live your life in a way that the world is better following your death.”

USA Cycling has since confirmed Wolfe is no longer part of its programme, saying in a statement: “The views of current and former national team athletes are their own and do not reflect those of USA Cycling.

“Chelsea Wolfe has not been a member of the USA Cycling National Team or a member of USA Cycling since 2023.”

But Sey argues more must be done, particularly after Wolfe was filmed shouting at women protesting her inclusion in a recent fixed-gear race.

“Wolfe’s attitude towards protesters is grotesque, especially in light of the political violence we are witnessing in this country,” she said.

“Wolfe is overtly advocating for violence against any woman who dares to stand up for herself and fair competition.

“This is misogyny, plain and simple. He must be banned for life from competing in any USA Cycling events — in the men’s or women’s category.”

Wolfe, who transitioned in 2014 and became the first openly transgender athlete to qualify for the Olympics for Team USA, had their career cut short when the UCI introduced a ban on trans women in female competition last year.

The athlete has spoken openly about her mental health struggles, saying she felt as if her “entire world had just ended” when the ban came into effect.
