Toulouse have made an official approach to Motherwell as they aim to appoint manager Jens Berthel Askou as their new head coach.

Askou led the Scottish Premiership club to a fourth-placed finish with victory at Hibernian last Saturday, securing European football for the Lanarkshire side.

Toulouse boss Carles Martinez Novell will leave after three years in charge of the 10th-placed Ligue 1 team at the end of this season, which was supposed to conclude away at Nantes on Sunday.

However, the match was abandoned with 22 minutes played after hooded ultras stormed the pitch and threw flares in an apparent protest against the home side’s relegation from the French top tier.

Negotiations are currently ongoing between Toulouse and Motherwell, but Fir Park sources have told BBC Scotland that nothing has been agreed regarding Askou’s future.

The Danish coach has been heavily praised for implementing what many have described as the most attractive football in Scotland since his arrival last summer.

Askou’s side have broken defensive club records without restricting their brave, attacking play, which has ultimately attracted interest from Europe.
