Three teenage boys who fell through the window of a double-decker bus have been released from hospital.

The vehicle had stopped on Bolton Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan, when the children fell from the top deck shortly before 16:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old were injured in the fall, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Greater Manchester Police said.

A statement from their school, St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic High, said: “All the boys were released before the weekend.”

The school has warned students to stay seated while travelling on the top deck.

In a message to parents, it said: “Please reinforce our message in school that pupils must sit in a seat for their journey if they choose to use the top deck of a bus”.

The school said it was in contact with the boys’ families , and children who witnessed the incident, “to offer support”.

In a statement released on Thursday, head teacher Mark Dumican said: “We are working with the police and with Vision Bus Company to determine the circumstances that led to this incident.”

Police earlier said the incident appeared “to be an unfortunate accident”.

The has also contacted Vision Bus Company over claims the full window and frame was able to be dislodged from its holdings.
