Thomas Skinner made his dancefloor debut on Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night, performing a Paso Doble with pro Amy Dowden.

The controversial businessman ended up near the bottom of the leaderboard, achieving a score of 16. As fans of the show continued to make clear their disapproval of Mr Skinner being in the series, his wife Sinead Skinner left a public remark about her own feelings regarding her husband’s performance.

While Mr Skinner also has a following, those who aren’t as keen on him left a few social media comments during and after his dance.

One penned on Instagram: “Amy beautiful as always, Tom nasty. Why is he even on the show?”

Another shared: “Worst of the night and way over marked,” while another offered a similar comment: “May he go first and Amy gets a winner for the Christmas special.”

“How intensely awful he was. An absolute charisma vacuum, I’m sure the gammons will keep him safe a while,” another critic penned.

“What was that? He was just walking around,” someone else asked.

However, in the same comments section, an unfazed Mrs Skinner left her own comment, not acknowledging the disgruntled viewers.

She simply wrote: “Very proud,” along with a love heart emoji.

Responding to her comment, one fan of Mr Skinner’s encouraged: “And so you should be, ignore the ignorant lefties banging on about politicians he done alright well done Tom. A Bosh!”

The pillow company founder himself also left a comment, with Mr Skinner adding: “Absolutely LOVED IT!” along with his catchphrase: “Bosh.”

Meanwhile, choreographer Ms Dowden also offered her support, writing: “So proud of you @iamtomskinner for someone not from entertainment world completely to go out and perform this!

“You’ve worked so so hard and you should be so proud x let’s go week 2.”

Judges Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke gave mixed responses to Mr Skinner’s routine.

Mr Du Beke stated: “I can see your studio situation now and Amy is an excellent teacher.

“She will say, ‘I want you to look left,’ and you look left. You are very literal and do exactly what she asks you.

“That is good, but you didn’t add anything else. You added only what she asked you.

“Fortunately for you, it is the Paso Doble, so you can get away with a lot of marching, this was excellent for this dance, so well done – but I need a bit more next week.”

Mr Revel Horwood took a sterner approach as he simply confessed: “It was very square, flat and stumpy and it was more tin soldier than matador, I’m afraid. It wasn’t for me at all.”

Hitting back at Mr Horwood’s criticism, Ms Mabuse commented: “You are making my job hard today!”

Turning to Mr Skinner, she began: “Tom, I think you had direction, I think your spine was engaged every time in the movement.

“I saw lovely beginning moments where I see he is concentrating, listening to what Amy said.

“What we needed was more shaping because it became very straight and you had to go there and there and go back. Just more three-dimensional movement in your body and we will get there.”

Finally Ms Ballas remarked: “Amy, I think you are a great teacher, you come out here and you always give us a basic start, it was great.

“The Paso Doble is built on a marching dance, but it is also built on an oval shape. And you are a star at the oval shape in Paso Doble. I was quite impressed because that is not easy to do.

“You didn’t make any foot mistakes, you kept your oval. Everybody could have had a but more of everything, but I was surprised and I was pleased with you.””
