Australian singer Emma Pask has opened up about the tragic accident that left her husband Rodrigo Ocana paralysed.
Rodrigo spent almost eight months in hospital and was left paralysed from the waist down after suffering a horrific motorbike accident in December 2023.
He has received extensive treatment for injuries including a broken back, eight broken ribs, a shattered shoulder blade, a broken arm, and a fractured jaw and sternum.
A year on from the accident, Emma has revealed 2025 is looking a lot brighter for her and Rodrigo as she gave an update on his health.
Emma, who famously sang at Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban‘s 2006 wedding, said Rodrigo is now home and out of hospital as she praised him for his resilience.
‘We’ve grown a lot together in the past 12 months,’ Emma told the Daily Telegraph.

‘I’ve certainly really witnessed a deeper depth to my husband, knowing that he can experience such a horrific accident the way he has and work through it all with such determination is incredible.
‘My admiration for him is growing hour by hour, day by day,’ she added.
Emma, who has been documenting her husband’s recovery on social media, also took to Instagram on Saturday to pay homage to everyone who has supported Rodrigo.
‘For getting us through the past year, it goes back to the beginning,’ she gushed.
‘A young woman and her boyfriend, who were first at the scene of Rod’s accident. They stayed with him and comforted him as much as they could whilst waiting for the ambulance.
‘Our dear friends and family all rallied around us and offered, and continue to offer, so much care and support,’ she added.
The singer, who rose to fame on The Voice in 2013, was also full of praise for staff at both the Royal North Shore Hospital and the Prince of Wales Hospital.
Emma also thanked Spinal Cord Injury Australia for providing ‘support and loads of information to help us navigate our way through all that comes after experiencing and SCI’.

Emma also recently marked her wedding anniversary with Rodrigo and shared a sweet message for him on social media just before Christmas.
‘The accident altered everything, but it also brought out a strength in you that has left me in awe every single day,’ she wrote.
‘To my incredible husband, Rod—this anniversary isn’t just about marking the passing of time but celebrating the remarkable progress you’ve made in your recovery and the unwavering determination you’ve shown through every challenge you’ve faced.’
Emma added that Rodrigo has been a constant inspiration in his approach to recovery.
‘The road has been difficult, full of both physical and emotional hurdles, but you’ve faced each day with courage, a newfound patience, and the kind of grace that inspires not just me, but everyone around you,’ she went on.
‘This year, I’ve witnessed the power of love, hope, and relentless spirit. It’s a reminder that no matter how hard life hits, there is always room for healing, growth, and a brighter tomorrow.
‘I love you endlessly, and I’m so proud of how far you’ve come.
‘Today, I celebrate not just the milestone, but the journey itself and the courage to face each day.’

Aside from her turn on The Voice, Emma has forged a career as one of Australia’s best-loved jazz singers.
She is perhaps best known for her collaborations with James Morrison as well as for singing the bridal waltz at the 2006 wedding of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban.
She has also been nominated for a Best Jazz Album ARIA twice and nabbed a MO Award in 2004 for Jazz Vocal Performer Of The Year.
Emma’s career has seen her release nine albums from 1999’s Emma to her 2021 effort On the Sunny Side of the Street.
