Davies, who works as a project manager, told Radio Manchester when he decided to apply to be a contestant on The 1% Club he had only ever watched the ITV quiz show once before – adding his brother would often send him the questions.

But when he began watching episodes to prepare for his debut on the quiz show, he said he realised he needed to come up with a gimmick, to make himself stand out among the other contestants.

“I thought, I’m not the world’s most exciting person, I need to come up with something that’s going to stand out,” he said.

“Because usually people have got something a bit ridiculous or a bit out there to say about themselves,

“So I thought, well, I can eat. I’ll say I’ll do a world record in that sense.”

Davies was called out by show host, Lee Mack, during the filming of his episode, and promised to attempt a world record after the show.

Later on, Davies ended up winning the quiz show, after answering a question only 1% of the public were able to answer, according to the gameshow.

“I had to get my jacket dry cleaned at the end of it,” he said.

“I was so sweaty. The whole last minute of it is all just a blur.”
