A teenage girl has died at the Kendal Calling festival in the early hours of the morning, police have said.

The 17-year-old suffered a medical episode at about 02:15 BST and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cumbria Police said it was looking into the circumstances and wanted to speak to anyone who was in the area of the Calling Out tent and the Big Wheel around the time of the girl’s death.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers are particularly keen to speak with a group of women who alerted first responders to the girl after becoming concerned for her welfare.”

They said the girl’s family had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers.

A Kendal Calling spokesperson said the festival team was supporting authorities with their investigation.

They said: “As soon as the individual became unwell, they were immediately attended to by our on-site security and medical teams.

“Paramedics and medical personnel provided emergency care at the scene and did everything they could to help.”

The spokesperson added the team was “deeply saddened” by the teenager’s death and extended “deepest sympathy” to her loved ones.
