A man is being held by police following the suspected abduction of a teenage girl in the affluent village of Bowdon in Greater Manchester.

The suspect, 56, described as a white male, was detained in the early hours of Tuesday morning after the 15-year-old was reported missing on Monday evening.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers collaborated with Cheshire Constabulary to make the arrest, with detectives securing an extension to continue questioning the man in custody.

Specialist officers are providing support to the teenager and her family following the incident, which occurred in the upmarket suburb near Altrincham.

The victim was walking alone on Bradgate Road at approximately 6.45pm on Monday when she was seized and bundled into a van.

During the subsequent seven hours, the girl was reportedly threatened with a blade before being located inside the vehicle at the Cottons Hotel and Spa car park in Knutsford, Cheshire.

A witness who heard the teenager’s screams noted the van’s registration number and alerted authorities, enabling police to issue an alert for the specific vehicle.

Officers discovered the girl still inside the vehicle when they arrived at the hotel premises, arresting the suspect at the scene.
