Last year alone, carbon emissions fell from council buildings by 17 per cent, as well as from street lights by 16 per cent.

Aled Vaughan Owen, the council’s cabinet member for climate change, decarbonisation and sustainability, previously said the ongoing work was “helping to reduce energy costs, improving energy security, strengthening resilience to climate change and creating healthier environments for our residents and future generations”.

Meanwhile, the council are understood to have paid out on five insurance claims for damage and injury caused by potholes across the last two years, a Freedom of Information request by the Local Democracy Reporting Service found.

According to the Asphalt Industry Alliance, the average cost to fix a pothole is £78.45.

At this price, Carmarthenshire Council could fix almost half a million potholes (497,131) per year with their recommended annual Net Zero budget.
