A student has died following a “medical emergency” at a South Tyneside school.

Police, ambulance crews, and the Great North Air Ambulance Service were called to St Wilfrid’s RC College in South Shields shortly after 9.15am this morning.

A spokesman from the school confirmed that a medical emergency had occurred on site.

Sadly, the school has now confirmed a student has died.

A spokesman from Great North Air Ambulance Service said: “Our critical care team was activated at 9.33am to reports of a medical incident at a school in South Shields.

“We had a paramedic and doctor on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 9.46am.”

A spokesman from North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an incident this morning on Temple Park Road in South Shields at 9:17am.

“We dispatched two ambulance crews, one critical care specialist paramedic, one clinical team leader and were supported by our colleagues at Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).”
