A Strictly Come Dancing star has been arrested after a woman reported being raped last year.

The pair are understood to have met through the BBC series, though the complainant is not connected to the show as either a contestant or a professional dancer.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was detained on Monday 13 October in London on suspicion of rape and later released on police bail. He is currently under investigation.

The allegation relates to an incident said to have taken place in Hertfordshire in 2024.

It is the second arrest involving a figure linked to Strictly within the past few months, adding further pressure to a programme already battling recent scandals.

A source connected to the show described the situation as deeply troubling for senior producers.

“This is an absolute nightmare for the BBC – a heartbreaking situation,” they said.

“Bosses have done their utmost to steady the ship and make the show as scandal-free as possible, and yet now this has happened.”

They added that senior staff were treating the matter “seriously” and ensuring support was available for all those involved.

Another insider told The Sun that the next series remains scheduled to air in 2026 but acknowledged that safeguarding has become a central focus for the broadcaster.

“The series is due to go ahead as scheduled in 2026 but, of course, safeguarding measures are at the heart of all BBC shows in this current climate. And we will always adapt as necessary.”

Hertfordshire Police confirmed the arrest, saying: “A man was released on police bail under investigation having been arrested in London on Monday 13 October on suspicion of rape.

“The allegations relate to an incident which happened in Hertfordshire during 2024. Meanwhile inquiries by officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Public Protection team will continue.

Given the nature of the allegations, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this time.”

A BBC spokesperson said: “It would not be appropriate to comment on an ongoing police investigation.”
