Six people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed to death in a London knife fight that injured four others.

A 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Clapham, south-west London, during the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Metropolitan Police said the victim suffered a knife wound at approximately 4.20am near the junction of Tremadoc Road and Clapham High Street.

He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Officers were alerted at 4.37am and have since been conducting investigations at the scene, with police vehicles blocking roads and cordons erected around the area.

The victim has not yet been publicly identified, though the Met confirmed his next of kin have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers.

Four of the arrested men, three aged 22 and one aged 24, had themselves presented at hospital with stab injuries sustained during the incident.

Their wounds are not considered life-threatening or life-changing, and they continue to receive treatment whilst under arrest.

The two remaining suspects, aged 23 and 27, were also detained at the hospital in connection with the incident.

All six men remain in police custody.

Photographs from the scene showed tape marking out a crime scene cordon in the Clapham area, with officers maintaining a visible presence throughout Saturday as forensic and investigative work continued along Tremadoc Road and the surrounding streets.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee, who is heading the murder inquiry, said the investigation was making rapid progress.

She said: “Our enquiries are progressing quickly, and we understand that the victim was stabbed at around 4.20am close to Tremadoc Road in Clapham.

“Those in the area will continue to notice an increased police presence throughout the day as these enquiries continue.”

She added: “Officers have arrested six men on suspicion of murder and we are working quickly to establish what has happened.”

Detectives are carrying out inquiries across the Tremadoc Road and Clapham High Street area to piece together the full circumstances of the incident, with the investigation moving at pace throughout the day.

Superintendent Mark Gallacher, a local policing lead, described the killing as “a tragic incident” and acknowledged the alarm it would cause in the neighbourhood.

He said: “We understand that this will cause concern among the local community and specialist detectives are doing everything possible to determine what has happened.

“We are asking anyone with any information or anyone who may have witnessed anything in the early hours to contact us and support with the ongoing investigation.”

The Met has urged anyone who saw anything or has relevant information to get in touch on 101, quoting reference 1474/25 July.
