Sir Mo Farah encountered an unexpected delay at Nice airport when his newly acquired trophy triggered security alarms.

The four-time Olympic champion had just been honoured with a Clio Sports Award at a ceremony in Cannes.

The tall golden figure featuring upstretched arms required separate scanning from his other hand luggage, causing a brief disruption to his journey, reports The Sun.

The 42-year-old distance running legend found himself in a race against time to reach his departure gate.

“The airport was packed with people from the event and he had a few congratulating him on his award,” the witness reported.

The brief delay meant Farah had to hurry to his departure gate following the additional screening procedures.

Farah had delivered a speech upon receiving the prestigious award earlier in the week at the Sport Beach event.

The ceremony formed part of the renowned Cannes festival celebrations in the South of France.

During his time at the event, the Team GB legend hosted a Run Club on Tuesday morning, offering enthusiasts the rare opportunity to jog alongside one of Britain’s most decorated athletes.

The award ceremony came just days after Sir Mo’s participation in Soccer Aid over the weekend, where he featured in England’s narrow 5-4 defeat to the World XI team.

Farah won ten world championship gold medals, including four Olympic golds, during his illustrious career.
