Sir David Beckham paid a touching tribute to King Charles after receiving a knighthood at Windsor Castle.

Beckham was joined by his wife Victoria and his parents, Sandra and David at the royal residence.

Victoria, who received an OBE in 2017 for services to the fashion industry, designed and made the suit that her husband wore at the castle.

Sir David paid tribute to the King’s style following the ceremony.

“[King Charles] was quite impressed with my suit,” said Beckham.

“He’s the most elegantly dressed man that I know, so he inspired quite a few of my looks over the years and he definitely inspired this look.

“It was something that my wife made me. I looked at old pictures of him when he was quite young in morning suits and I was like ‘OK, that’s what I want to wear’ – so I gave it to my wife and she did it.”

Sir David added: “I couldn’t be prouder, people know how patriotic I am – I love my country.

“I’ve always said how important the monarchy is to my family.

“I’m lucky enough to have travelled around the world and all people want to talk to me about is our monarchy. It makes me proud.”

When the footballer received his OBE in 2003, he chose instead to bring his maternal grandparents Joe and Peggy, both of whom have since died.

The footballer’s grandparents played a significant role in fostering his connection to the monarchy during his childhood.

Beckham recalls watching his grandfather rise from his seat whenever the Queen delivered her Christmas Day broadcast.

“They adored the Royal Family and were loyal monarchists who had so much respect for the late Queen,” the family friend noted.

David discovered in spring that Beckham would feature in the King’s Birthday Honours, prompting Victoria to embark on her secret tailoring project in June.

Despite having no previous experience with men’s formal tailoring, Victoria committed herself fully to the challenge once she realised the ceremony would be months away.
