A second suspect has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was attacked on the Bristol to Bath Railway Path.

The victim, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries believed to have been caused by a “bladed weapon” following the incident near Bitton at about 20:00 BST on Tuesday.

One teenager was arrested on the night of the attack and a second was arrested on Wednesday afternoon.

Both have been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

Insp Barny Mabbett, from Avon and Somerset Police, said: “Uniformed officers are conducting patrols along the railway path to provide reassurance because we recognise an incident like this does inevitably causes concern.

“Our investigation into what happened is ongoing, but we are also working with other organisations around making sure the railway path is a safe place for people to enjoy and use both in the short-term and long-term.”
