Salma Hayek has become a grandmother for the first time, sharing the joyful news with her 30 million Instagram followers on Monday.

The 59-year-old Mexican-born actress posted a tender video in which she cradled the sleeping newborn in her arms, speaking softly to him in Spanish.

“What are you dreaming?” she asked the baby, calling him “chiquitito hermoso,” meaning beautiful little one.

In her caption, Ms Hayek wrote: “We are blessed to welcome the fourth living generation of Francois.”

The baby boy is the son of Hayek’s stepson François Pinault Jr. and his wife Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck

She also disclosed the affectionate pet name she has chosen for her grandson. “Although I will call him Panchito. He seems to love it, and I cannot love him more,” she added.

The clip showed the infant smiling and giggling in his sleep as Ms Hayek, dressed casually in a purple top and black glasses, gazed adoringly at him.

The baby boy is the son of Ms Hayek’s stepson François Pinault Jr., 38, and his wife Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck.

The couple had announced their engagement in March, following roughly a year together, though they have not disclosed when their wedding took place.

Henckel von Donnersmarck marked the family milestone last week by posting photographs on Instagram documenting their early weeks of parenthood.

“My husband (the world’s coolest françois) and our son (the world’s cutest françois)… our first month as parents,” she captioned the post.

Among the images was a photograph of Ms Hayek holding the baby against her chest as the new father looked on lovingly.

Other snapshots captured Henckel von Donnersmarck cradling her son in a white dress, and the new dad bottle-feeding and changing nappies.

Ms Hayek has been married to French billionaire François-Henri Pinault, 64, since 2009. Together they have an 18-year-old biological daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault.

Beyond François Jr., the Frida star is also stepmother to Mathilde, 25, and Augustin, 19.

The actress has spoken candidly in the past about her desire for a larger family and the fulfilment she found through her blended household.

“I’ve had that yearning, that longing, and that pain. I always wanted to have a lot of children, and I was not able to. My body, as a miracle, had one,” she told Red magazine in 2017.

“The huge blessing I’ve had is that my husband has three other children. So I have four. And they are all so different.”

On the professional front, Ms Hayek is gearing up for the American cinema release of Without Blood, a drama adapted from Alessandro Baricco’s novel by Angelina Jolie, who also directed and produced the picture.

The film, which sees Hayek take on the role of Nina, explores themes of trauma, vengeance, and reconciliation in the aftermath of an unnamed conflict.

Demián Bichir and Juan Minujín also feature in the cast. Without Blood is set to arrive in US cinemas on September 18.
