Sir Sadiq Khan has been lambasted for his “biased” Open Iftar event in London on Monday, as Khaedja Khan branded it “tone deaf”.

Speaking to GB News, the political commentator threw her support behind Shadow Justice Secretary Nick Timothy’s criticism of the mass prayer, declaring he should “not lose his job”.

Mr Timothy took to social media to criticise the event, declaring mass prayer is “not welcome in our public places and shared institutions”.

In a post on X, he said: “Too many are too polite to say this, but mass ritual prayer in public places is an act of domination.

“I am not suggesting everybody at Trafalgar Square last night is an Islamist, but the domination of public places is straight from the Islamist playbook.

“Trafalgar Square belongs to all of us. It is a national memorial to our independence and our salvation. It was an act of domination and therefore division. It shouldn’t happen again.”

Hitting out at Mr Timothy’s remarks during Wednesday’s Prime Minister’s Questions, Sir Keir called on Tory leader Kemi Badenoch to “sack” the minister.

Mrs Badenoch shut down the PM and declared the Shadow Justice Secretary was “defending British values”.

Expressing her outrage at Sir Keir’s attack on Mr Timothy, Ms Brown made clear that the Tory should “not lose his job”.

She stated: “One thing that we have in the UK is free speech. Why is it that all of a sudden free speech is specific to certain groups?

“I actually agree with Nick Timothy. I am so pro celebrating different religions and whatnot, but the scale, especially in this time where there’s so much political uprise against radical Islam and political Islam and whatnot, the Mayor of London has done this in a way that it’s like, you know what, I don’t care what you think, I will do as I please.”

Arguing the event was “biased” and “tone deaf”, Ms Brown told the People’s Channel: “He’s supposed to be non-biased, and his behaviour to me was incredibly biased.

“It was tone deaf to the British public, and I feel like, especially given the fact that Islamophobia definition has been put out now and people are already angry with it, this is just pushing it over the edge.”

Agreeing with Mr Timothy’s argument public mass prayer is “not welcome” in our public places, Ms Brown highlighted Britain is a “Christian country with Christian laws”.

She explained: “I definitely agree with him, because it’s the nation’s front room, and this country is Christian and has British man-made laws.

“During this time, he should have understood. The problem is with Islamic politicians like Sadiq Khan, they throw us normal, moderate Muslims in the middle of all this trouble.”

She continued: “And I definitely agree that, yes, celebrate Islam. I love the fact that we can celebrate all the different things. I attended the menorah lighting in October and that was really incredible.

“But there is a line that you shouldn’t cross, and to me, public prayer is a line that is definitely crossed.”

In a statement, a spokesman for Sir Sadiq has told the People’s Channel: “The Mayor was proud that thousands of Londoners from all faiths, races and backgrounds united in the heart of the capital for the Ramadan Tent project’s hugely successful Open Iftar programme.

“Together they showed the world that London will always be a city that celebrates and champions our diversity as we build a better and a fairer London for everyone.”
