A Ryanair flight has collided with a fuel tanker at a British airport causing holidaymakers to be evacuated.

Passengers had boarded the aircraft and were waiting to fly out to Faro in Portugal from Edinburgh Airport.

One passenger told The Scottish Sun: “It was scary, the pilot came on the intercom and tried to pretend it wasn’t as serious as it looked.

“They can’t use the plane anymore.”

“It was just starting to move and was driving to the runway when it crashed into the fuel tank.”

A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport confirmed there was an “incident” however denied claims that the collision had caused a fire.

They added there had been “no impact” on operations at the airport.

A spokesman Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it was contacted after an “aircraft collided with a fuel truck”.

Crews currently have one pump on standby while fire airport crews deal with the incident.

A spokesman from Ryanair told GB News: “This flight from Edinburgh to Faro (Dec 22) was preparing for departure when the wing tip came in contact with the cab of a fuel truck.

“Passengers disembarked normally and a replacement aircraft was arranged to operate this flight to Faro.”

The flight is now set to depart at around 12.15pm.

Earlier this month, a newly published Air Accidents Investigation Branch report revealed a Ryanair plane carrying nearly 190 people suffered substantial damage after colliding with a barrier at London Stansted Airport.

The incident occurred on August 21, 2024 while the Boeing 737 was being manoeuvred by a ground tug whose instructor was preoccupied with coaching a trainee driver.

All 181 passengers and six crew members escaped injury when the plane struck the protective fence, which shields surrounding areas from engine exhaust.
