Ruth Madeley has heaped praise on her The Rapture co-star India Amarteifio, describing the experience of acting alongside her as “a true privilege.”

In an interview for the upcoming BBC drama, Ms Madeley told the broadcaster: “India is incredible. I love to watch her in anything, purely as a viewer.”

She continued: “I’m always excited to see her performance but to have the opportunity to act opposite her and share a screen with her has been a true privilege.”

Ms Madeley also declared Ms Amarteifio ideally suited to the role, stating: “I think she is the perfect Bethany.”

The actress went on to highlight the compelling dynamic between their two characters in the new psychological thriller.

She stated: “It’s an interesting way to tell the story of two women – it’s very cat and mouse throughout.”

She spoke warmly about the connection their characters share, describing the bond between the two women as “really beautiful.”

In The Rapture, Ms Madeley takes on the role of Dr Gabs Fox, a psychologist who joins a psychiatric hospital after a catastrophic car accident that killed her husband and left her with paralysis.

Her patient is 17-year-old Bethany Krall, played by Ms Amarteifio, who was sectioned following the violent murder of her mother, Carys Krall, two years prior.

The case drew widespread public attention, in part due to Bethany’s father, Leonard Krall, being the leader of Faith Way, an online spiritual movement with millions of followers.

Bethany seems to know intimate details about Gabs’s private life and claims to have prophetic visions, which she expresses through disturbing sketches of natural disasters.

Gabs initially searches for a rational, clinical explanation but begins noticing unsettling connections between the drawings and events unfolding in the real world.

With the help of journalist Dick Carwyn and engineer Frasier Melville, Gabs delves into the Krall family’s history, growing ever more uncertain about whether the teenager is telling the truth or playing a sophisticated game of manipulation.

The nationwide scrutiny surrounding Bethany’s case is closely tied to her father’s prominent public profile, adding another layer of complexity to Gabs’s already fraught investigation into what her young patient truly knows, and what she may be fabricating.

The series is an adaptation of Liz Jensen’s bestselling novel, with scripts written by Bryony Kimmings and Rebecca Manley.

Ms Madeley also revealed her favourite memory from the set, which involved sharing scenes with Ruth Jones.

“Working with Ruth Jones, two days of therapy! Having Ruth Jones as your therapist? Come on. You can’t write that stuff. It’s incredible,” she said.

She described the experience of performing opposite Ms Jones as “a beautiful moment,” adding to what appears to have been a deeply rewarding production for the actress.
