“He took ‘no’ for an answer then.”
After the alleged attack, jurors heard she was “in a daze” and “in shock” and felt “numb” and “ashamed”.
She choked back tears as she recounted the alleged attack to officers, telling them: “I was denying it to myself for so long… this really happened to me; I was raped.”
Mr Brand strongly denies the allegations against him. He has pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault.
Cross-examining, Ian Winters KC questioned the woman on how much she had drunk on the night of the alleged rape.
She told jurors, while sitting behind a screen: “I wasn’t drunk, where I don’t remember, or I wasn’t in control of how I spoke, how I presented myself. I wasn’t paralytic.”
Mr Winters suggested the woman “happily accompanied Mr Brand into the lavatory” and asked why she did not leave.
The woman replied: “When someone is towering over you, dragging you really hard, and within seconds you’re locked in a room with them, when you’re small, it’s hard to get away from them.”
Winters asked why she did not “shout” for help.
“I can’t recall,” the woman replied, to which the defence suggested it was because she was “charmed” by Mr Brand.
“I wasn’t charmed in the slightest,” she replied.
The trial continues.
