Lady Pamela Hicks, who served as a lady-in-waiting to the late Queen Elizabeth II, was laid to rest yesterday at St Bartholomew’s Church in Brightwell Baldwin.

The funeral service took place nine days after her death on June 5 at the age of 97.

Lady Pamela was a cousin of Prince Philip and maintained close ties to the Royal Family throughout her life, counting both the late Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh among her friends.

Among those gathered to pay their respects were Lady Pamela’s daughter, India, and her husband, David Flint Wood.

Lady Helen Taylor, daughter of the Duke of Kent, was present among the mourners.

Lady Helen dressed in a navy long-sleeved outfit with a dark belt and a veiled hat in matching tones, completing her ensemble with a coordinating clutch bag.

Maddison Brudenell, a cousin of the Prince of Wales, also made an appearance at the ceremony.

Senior members of the Royal Family were absent from the funeral, as the service coincided with Trooping the Colour.

The annual celebration marking the monarch’s official birthday took place simultaneously at Buckingham Palace.

King Charles and Queen Camilla were in attendance at the military pageant, alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children.

Despite Lady Pamela’s significant role in royal circles and her longstanding friendship with both Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the scheduling conflict meant the most prominent royals could not be present to bid farewell to the woman who had dedicated much of her life to serving the Crown.

India announced her mother’s death last week, paying tribute to a woman she described as “incomparable company” who carried her memories “lightly, and always with humour.”

“My mother maintained right up to the end, the impeccable style, sharp mind, and effortless charm that made her not only a cherished institution, but truly the last of her kind,” she wrote.

Buckingham Palace issued a statement following Lady Pamela’s death, confirming the King’s sorrow at the news.

“His Majesty was greatly saddened to learn of the death of Lady Pamela Hicks, a sorrow tempered by the fondest memories and deepest gratitude for her long life and loyal service to Queen Elizabeth,” the statement read.
