Queen Mary of Denmark has returned to royal duties after being forced to cancel multiple engagements due to an undisclosed illness.
The 53-year-old monarch resumed her public engagements on Monday with a visit to Pilehaveskolen in Vallensbaek.
She was there to see the School Force’s work with her namesake Mary Foundation.
The Danish Queen was all smiles as she arrived at the school, where pupils welcomed her by waving the national flag.

The visit marked her first royal duty since March 5.
She missed the Heart Association’s annual awards ceremony in Copenhagen on March 12.
The royal also cancelled an event for the Mary Foundation at the University of Copenhagen on March 14.
A spokesperson for the Danish Royal House told local media: “Her Majesty the Queen, like many others right now, has become ill, and therefore unfortunately cannot participate in the Heart Association’s award ceremony.”

No further details about the nature of her illness were provided.
During her school visit, Queen Mary met with pupils and heard from the student council about improving well-being across the school.
The School Force is a collaboration between the Mary Foundation, Børns Vilkår and Save the Children, aimed at improving students’ well-being.
Following her visit, Queen Mary said: “It has been a pleasure to experience Pilehaveskolen’s work with the School Force. The school’s experiences and the student council’s proposals once again emphasise to me how central it is to involve children and young people in issues about their everyday lives.”

Following these celebrations, the King and Queen will travel to Japan from April 23-25 for an accession visit.
