A royal insider has stated that trust remains low among senior members of the monarchy towards Prince Harry as speculation about a reunion intensifies.

Associates of Harry have indicated that the Duke of Sussex is hoping for an invitation from King Charles to visit the monarch’s Norfolk estate this summer as part of efforts to mend their fractured relationship.

The 41-year-old prince reportedly wishes to bring Meghan and their two children to Sandringham in July, when he is scheduled to return to Britain for Invictus Games-related engagements.

Those in Harry’s circle say he “would welcome an invitation to Sandringham” during his upcoming UK trip.

A friend of Harry’s was quoted as saying: “If the King was to say, ‘Come up and spend some time with the family’, he’d love that.”

The duke has encountered his father on just two occasions over the past two years.

However, those close to the monarch have responded with scepticism to these overtures, pointing to a pattern of media briefings from the Sussexes’ camp as a fundamental obstacle to reconciliation.

A friend of the King told the Daily Mail: “If Harry truly wishes to see his father, he would do well to encourage his supporters to allow such matters to be discussed privately, since low trust and bitter experience in this regard remains one of the principal barriers to progress.”

Palace sources highlighted that repeated leaks and public statements attributed to “Team Sussex” over recent years have created significant difficulties in restoring harmony within the family.

Harry’s departure from royal duties was accompanied by a series of public criticisms of the institution, including revealing interviews and his autobiography, Spare.

The security question remains central to any potential reunion. Harry is still awaiting a ruling from the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) on what level of police protection his family should receive in Britain.

Sources close to the duke had previously suggested a decision was expected by the end of January, with Harry confident of a favourable outcome. No ruling has yet been issued.

A private family visit would not automatically trigger enhanced protection arrangements.

The duke lost a legal challenge against the Government over security provision last year and subsequently wrote to the Home Secretary requesting a comprehensive risk assessment for his family.

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, now aged six and four, have not seen King Charles in nearly four years.

Their last meeting with their grandfather took place when the family travelled from California for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.

Meghan’s most recent visit to Britain came later that same year, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Any Sandringham gathering would also raise questions about Harry’s relationship with his brother.

The Duke of Sussex remains estranged from the Prince and Princess of Wales, who frequently spend their holidays at Anmer Hall, their country residence on the Norfolk estate
