Romeo Beckham has taken to social media to share a touching few words to his father, Sir David Beckham, after he was formally knighted by King Charles III during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Tuesday afternoon.

The 50-year-old former England captain knelt before the monarch, who touched both his shoulders with the ceremonial sword in the traditional ritual.

His wife Victoria, who now holds the title Lady Beckham, witnessed the historic moment alongside Beckham’s parents, Sandra and Ted. The fashion designer is reported to have created the navy blue suit her husband wore for the occasion.

The honour recognises Sir David’s contributions to sport and charitable causes, arriving more than two decades after he received an OBE in 2003.

Congratulatory messages have flooded in from far and wide for the former footballer, and shortly after he received the honour, his son Romeo took to Instagram to add to the fanfare.

“No one deserves this more than you, love you so much xxx,” Romeo penned his father alongside a snap of him, mum Lady Victoria, sister Harper, and brother Cruz.

Signing off on a humorous note, Romeo added: “Congrats Sir dad @davidbeckham,” alongside a laughing emoji.

He wasn’t the only member of the Beckham clan to publicly celebrate Sir David’s achievement. The 50-year-old’s sister, Joanne, reacted to Romeo’s heartfelt post with a series of crying emojis along with the comment: “This is just everything xxx.”

LATEST BECKHAM FAMILY NEWS:

Meanwhile, Sir David and Lady Victoria’s youngest son, Cruz, liked his brother’s update and shared Manchester United’s post dedicated to his father on his Instagram page.

One person who was notably absent from the ceremony and is yet to publicly acknowledge the former Real Madrid star’s achievement is his eldest son, Brooklyn.

The aspiring chef and his wife, Nicola Peltz, are believed to be at loggerheads with Sir David and Lady Victoria following a highly-publicised family fallout.

Sir David’s honour comes after the Three Lions icon earned 115 international caps and led his country as captain for six years from 2000 to 2006.

He represented England at three World Cups and two European Championships, netting 17 goals in total.

Sir David’s club career began with Manchester United’s academy in 1992, progressing to the first team three years later. His most memorable season came in 1999 when United secured an unprecedented treble, claiming the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles.

After accumulating 85 goals, six league titles and two FA Cups at Old Trafford, he transferred to Real Madrid for £25 million in 2003.

Away from the pitch, Sir David has served as a Unicef goodwill ambassador for nearly two decades, beginning his partnership with the humanitarian organisation in 2005. A decade later, the charity established a fund bearing his name to honour their collaboration.

The self-proclaimed “huge royalist” strengthened his royal connections last year when he became an ambassador for the King’s Foundation.

The educational charity, founded by Charles in 1990, benefits from Sir David’s support for its youth programmes and environmental education initiatives.

Beyond his playing days, the former footballer helped secure London’s successful 2012 Olympic bid and currently co-owns both League Two club Salford City and MLS franchise Inter Miami.

The Berkshire ceremony also recognised other notable figures, including Nobel laureate Sir Kazuo Ishiguro and West End star Dame Elaine Paige.

Sir David expressed being “immensely proud” when his knighthood was announced in the King’s birthday honours earlier this year.
