Tracy Reiner, the adopted daughter of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner, has spoken publicly for the first time following the violent deaths of her father and his wife Michele Singer Reiner.

The 61-year-old actress, who was adopted by Reiner during his marriage to Penny Marshall, expressed profound devastation at the loss.


“I came from the greatest family ever,” Tracy told NBC News. “I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”

The tragedy struck particularly hard as Tracy had spent time with her father just 24 hours before the fatal incident, attending a family gathering on Saturday.

Rob Reiner, the director behind beloved films including When Harry Met Sally and The Princess Bride, was 78 years old. His wife Michele was 68.

The couple were discovered deceased at their Brentwood residence, a property valued at $13.5 million, on Sunday afternoon.

Law enforcement sources indicated that both victims had sustained lacerations consistent with a knife attack.

Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of Rob and Michele, is currently being held in custody in connection with their deaths.

It is understood the 32-year-old was arrested on Sunday and charged today.

He remains in custody on $4m (£2.9m) bail, according to the LASD Inmate Center records.Police officers arrived at the scene shortly after 3:30pm local time on Sunday, responding to a call made to the Los Angeles Fire Department requesting emergency medical assistance.

When first responders reached the mansion, they found both Rob and Michele had already died.

During a press conference held later that day, authorities confirmed that a family member was being questioned in relation to the investigation.

The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed that its robbery-homicide division has taken charge of the investigation into the double killing.

Tributes have flooded in from prominent figures across the political and entertainment worlds.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass described the deaths as “a devastating loss for our city and our country,” praising Reiner’s contributions to American culture and his advocacy for social and economic justice.

California Governor Gavin Newsom called the filmmaker “the big-hearted genius behind so many of the classic stories we love,” adding that his empathy made his work timeless.

Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama issued a joint statement expressing they were “heartbroken” by the couple’s deaths.

Christopher Guest and Jamie Lee Curtis, who collaborated with Reiner on This Is Spinal Tap and The Princess Bride, said they were “numb and sad and shocked,” with their focus now on supporting the family.

Director Paul Feig revealed he had seen Rob and Michele just two nights before their deaths.
