We all know that bus travel is cheap – but a new infographic has revealed that it can also be surprisingly fast.
The graphic reveals eight routes across Europe ‘where bus travel beats flying’, including the popular London to Manchester journey.
The table, by travel website BusBud, states that the fastest bus journey from London to Manchester is 3hrs 55 minutes, compared to an average flight time of 4hrs 12 minutes, when airport waiting time is factored in.
The bus time quoted, MailOnline Travel discovered, is for the London Golders Green service to Manchester Airport with National Express.
BusBud also compares costs, noting that travellers can pay as little as £9 for a bus ticket from London to Manchester, with the average flight cost being £231, though it is possible to fly for as little as £32 dependent on date and airline.
Dublin to Donegal is another route where travelling by bus could be quicker and cheaper, according to BusBud. A bus between the two Irish cities could take just 3hrs 15 minutes at a cost of £21 compared to an average flight and airport waiting time of 4hrs 18 minutes at a price of £59.
Amsterdam to Brussels by bus could take just 2hrs 45 minutes (£7), according to BusBud, compared to an average flight and airport time of 4hrs 20 minutes (£466).
Travel between the two major cities of Munich and Innsbruck can take just 2hrs 9 minutes on a bus (£15), according to BusBud. That’s much faster than the average flight and airport time of 6hrs 6 minutes (£50).

BusBud’s analysis found that travel between Helsinki and Tallinn could take just 2hrs by bus (£27), whereas the same journey could take as long as 4hrs 15 minutes (£84) by plane with airport waiting time.
Meanwhile, a bus journey between Stuttgart to Zurich can be as quick as 3hrs (£17) according to BusBud, while the equivalent plane and airport journey can take 4hrs (£192).
And bus travel between the two major Portuguese cities of Lisbon and Porto can take just 3hrs 15 minutes (£5) compared to a plane journey and airport time of 3hrs 21 minutes (£49).
Travelling between Munich and Prague on a bus, meanwhile, could take tourists just 4hrs 30 minutes (£21) compared to 4hrs 41 minutes (£171) between the two cities by plane with airport waiting time.
