More MPs will “lose their seats in a single general election than at any point in British history”, Reform UK’s Zia Yusuf has vowed.

Mr Yusuf, the head of policy at the party, told today’s Chopper’s Political Podcast of Reform’s ambition to cut public spending – but admitted it would not halve the size of the state after five years.

He also issued a forecast for the scale of the upheaval Reform is internally planning for at the next General Election, expected in 2029.

He said: “I’ll frankly take a lot of pleasure in seeing more MPs lose their seats in a single general election than at any point in British history.”

Then, he turned his fire across the benches of the Commons – where “sneering” MPs turn up their noses at Nigel Farage.

“When Nigel Farage stood up in Parliament and was talking about leaving the ECHR, look in the background,” Mr Yusuf told listeners.

“You have these Lib Dem and left-wing figures sneering and rolling their eyes.

“And then they heckled him. They heckled him.

“The man is, whether you like him or not, leading in the opinion polls.

“He represents the views of more British people than anyone in the House of Commons.

“[MPs] have a total disdain for the British people – it’s a big reason why Reform is doing as well as it is.

“I think people are so sick and tired of a political class who don’t see their job as representing the British people.

“They think they see themselves as being someone who’s there to to wag their fingers and and scold the British people about their views.”

The policy chief also vowed that the message of Mr Farage will be to “cut spending… public spending”.

“We will no longer waste taxpayer money, for example, on prioritizing foreign nationals,” he continued.

“We’ll put British people first. We will eventually cut taxes.

“But for us to talk about big tax cuts in pursuit of headlines when the British economy is in the perilous state that it currently is, and we have near £3trillion of national debt, would be irresponsible.”

Asked if a Reform government would halve the size of the state, Mr Yusuf said: “No. I think half is going some because there are demographic trends that are just… More.

“We’re going to have more pensioners. We’re going to have more people who are reliant on welfare even if they wanted to work, sadly, they’ll be too old to.”
