Tom Parker Bowles, Queen Camilla’s son, launched a scathing verbal assault on the Labour Government during a prestigious cigar ceremony in London on Monday.

The food writer and critic branded the administration “useless” whilst addressing guests at the Boisdale Xerjoff Cigar Smoker of the Year Awards in Canary Wharf.

Mr Parker Bowles said: “We’re here, back again, bruised, battered and perhaps destroyed, almost, by the sovereign functions of a Government so useless, they cannot even be bothered to lie properly.

“We’re still standing, of course, as we smoke fags and cigars, and drink, we have a good time.

He urged attendees not to allow “the politics of envy” to tarnish the evening’s celebrations.

His remarks came in response to tax increases announced in the recent Budget, which saw Chancellor Rachel Reeves implement a £30bn tax package.

The Prime Minister has repeatedly defended Ms Reeves against claims that she misled both the public and financial markets regarding the necessity for higher taxation.

Sir Keir Starmer maintained there had been “no misleading” and pointed to a £16bn fiscal shortfall as justification for the Chancellor’s tax decisions.

However, in the weeks preceding the Budget announcement, Ms Reeves had suggested income tax rises might be required due to the poor state of public finances.

The Prime Minister also directed criticism at the Office for Budget Responsibility, arguing that its pessimistic assessment of productivity had compelled the Chancellor to make tough choices.

Ms Reeves denied withholding positive economic information from Cabinet colleagues.

This is not the first time Parker Bowles has voiced opposition to Labour’s policies.

The Queen’s son has established himself as a prominent critic of Labour’s taxation strategy, with his comments at Monday’s event representing a fresh attack on Sir Keir Starmer’s Government.

The restaurant critic has previously spoken out against the Government’s inheritance tax changes affecting agricultural estates.

“We’re a farming country and farmers have been criminally ignored by the Government,” he told The Telegraph last year regarding the inheritance tax raid.

His latest comments at the cigar awards ceremony demonstrate a continued willingness to publicly challenge the administration’s fiscal approach.
