A Pembrokeshire pub landlord has been told to remove his inflatable rugby posts outside the front doors of his establishment in rather mysterious circumstances.

Jason Vaughan, who runs The Ivy Bush Inn on Narberth’s High Street, purchased the Guinness-branded goalposts from eBay for just under £100 to celebrate the Six Nations tournament.

The 44-year-old installed the black and white inflatable display to frame his pub’s entrance, creating a welcoming spot for rugby fans to enjoy a pint while watching the matches.

However, perhaps in response to Wales’ dismal showing in the Six Nations so far, one mysterious caller was left disgruntled by the light-hearted display.

Earlier this week, Mr Vaughan received an unexpected call claiming to be from the council, insisting the posts must come down within seven days following alleged complaints.

However, Pembrokeshire County Council has confirmed it has no record of any complaint about the inflatable rugby posts whatsoever.

A council spokesman told the Western Telegraph: “Pembrokeshire County Council can find no record of a complaint regarding the inflatable rugby posts and no record of any council officer contacting the pub regarding the posts.”

The spokesman added: “The local county councillor has also advised that he has received no complaints.”

With the local authority declaring themselves innocent, the identity of the mystery caller remains unknown.

Mr Vaughan and local pub goers have been left baffled, with this bizarre “whodunnit” yet to reach its conclusion.

The suspicious circumstances were explained on Mr Vaughan’s Facebook page.

“When I had the call, it came up with ‘No Caller ID’ which is what I’ve had when I’ve dealt with the council previously,” he wrote on social media.

The council said there have been no recorded complaints of the inflatable

“I would have expected them to follow the call up with a letter, but I’ve heard nothing.”

The Narberth-born publican, who took over The Ivy Bush roughly a year ago, was left fuming about the incident online, expressing his frustration.

“If anyone has a problem with the posts or with anything I do here I’d genuinely prefer you come and have a chat with me directly rather than going behind my back,” he wrote.

The local community has rallied behind the landlord emphatically.

Supporters flooded his Facebook post with messages of encouragement, with one commenting: “Ignore them, you’re doing a great job.”

Others described the inflatable posts as “awesome” and pointed out that far more elaborate decorations appear during the Christmas season without issue.

Referencing Wales’s disappointing Six Nations campaign that sees them prop up the table, one fan joked: “It made me smile, which is the first thing anything to do with Welsh rugby has made me smile for a long time!”

Mr Vaughan said: “The community of Narberth is brilliant. The town is a magical place and people have been amazing anything I do, they get right behind me.”
