Princess Eugenie announces name of baby daughter | UK News

Princess Eugenie has named her baby daughter Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.

Announcing the news on Instagram, she said it was chosen in tribute to “three people we love and admire past and present”, including Queen Elizabeth II, and reflected English and Portuguese history – “two places we love and call home”.

Adelaide was born earlier this month at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, weighing 6lb 9oz.

She is Eugenie’s third child with her husband, Jack Brooksbank, after their sons August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, born in 2021, and Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, born in 2023.

Sharing new photographs of Adelaide, including one of her sons holding their baby sister, Eugenie, 36, wrote: “Two weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we’ve had the most special, cosy and love-filled time.

“We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.

“Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her great-grandmother who we hold close in our hearts.

“Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home.

“Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.”

The name Adelaide is said to have been inspired by Queen Adelaide (1792-1849), who was married to King William IV, as well as Santa Maria Adelaide of Portugal, according to PA Media.

The inspiration for Annina is less clear, but it is believed to be a personal connection to Princess Eugenie and Jack which has not been made public.

The new arrival, who is not a Royal Highness, becomes 15th in line to the throne, moving ahead of her great-uncle, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward.

A statement from Buckingham Palace at the time of her birth read: “Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news.”

Eugenie and her family live between Portugal and Ivy Cottage, in the grounds of Kensington Palace.

Last May, they announced her pregnancy with a photograph of her young sons holding a baby scan with the caption: “Baby Brooksbank due 2026!”
