The Princess Royal visited Edinburgh this Wednesday morning, attending rehearsals for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo at Redford Barracks.

During the visit, Princess Anne met with military personnel and international performers preparing for the annual spectacle.

She was seen wearing a tartan skirt paired with a cream jacket, carrying a bouquet of flowers she had received as a gift.

The Princess Royal has served as patron of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo since 2006.

According to the event’s organisers, she has regularly attended rehearsals at Redford Barracks over the years “to meet cast members and those working behind the scenes to create the iconic spectacle.”

Among those she spoke with were members of the Vancouver Police Pipe Band, the Royal Regiment of Scotland, and the Royal Air Force, alongside other participating groups.

She observed the rehearsal after spending time chatting with the various performers and military personnel involved.

Often described as the “hardest working royal,” Princess Anne’s Edinburgh engagement followed a particularly demanding schedule.

She had been in Glasgow just the previous week for the Commonwealth Games.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is staged annually on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle, featuring performances from British Armed Forces, Commonwealth and international military bands, and artistic ensembles.

It forms part of the wider Edinburgh Festivals programme held each August, drawing audiences from around the world to the Scottish capital.

This year’s Tattoo carries the theme “A Call to Gather” and runs from August 7 to 29.

Organisers have pledged that the production will break new ground while honouring what loyal audiences have come to expect.

As the Tattoo’s website states: “Goosebumps await as you experience a spectacular show rooted in Scottish identity, where the gathering of clans becomes a gathering of nations, allies, friends and kindred spirits.”

The organisers added: “This production pushes the boundaries of what the Tattoo can be while celebrating everything audiences know and love: feel the thunderous Massed Pipes and Drums, toe-tap to the Highland Dancers and witness an extraordinary international cast.”

The show takes place on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle, with performances beginning this Friday evening.
