Prince William’s ex-girlfriend has sung at a memorial service for an Indian billionaire.

Rose Farquhar and the Prince of Wales dated briefly in 2000, shortly after William completed his A-Levels at Eton College.

The two met at the Beaufort Polo Club in Gloucestershire, associated with the Beaufort Hunt – one of the oldest and largest fox hunting packs in England.

Ms Farquhar, now a singer, recently performed at a memorial service for Sunjay Kapur, an Indian billionaire who died in June.

He was known globally as the chairman of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA).

Indian actress Karisma Kapoor, Prince William’s good friend, was married to Sunjay Kapur from 2003 before their divorce in 2016.

The 53-year-old sadly died on June 12, 2025, after collapsing during a polo match in England.

Mr Kapoor reportedly swallowed a bee while playing polo, that may have triggered an anaphylactic shock following a sting inside his mouth.

Ms Farquhar performed Imagine by John Lennon at the memorial service, held at St Andrew’s in Leighterton, Gloucestershire.

The subsequent reception was held at Beaufort Polo Club, the place where Prince William and Ms Farquhar met in 2000.

Prince William and his first girlfriend broke up before he began university in St Andrews, Scotland, where he would eventually meet his future wife, Princess Kate.

Despite the break-up, Ms Farquhar and the future King remained good pals.

In December 2022, Prince William attended Ms Farquhar’s wedding to veterinarian George Gemmell at the Church of St Mary in Tetbury.

It is understood that William entered the church through the back door, not to become a distraction or attract unwanted attention.

Ms Farquhar’s singing career began in 2006, having appeared on the BBC’s How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?.

This was Andrew Lloyd Webber’s show, where he hoped to find a starring actress for The Sound of Music at the West End.

Ms Farquhar made it to the final 16, but sadly did not win the show, losing to singer Connie Fisher.

Prince William’s ex-girlfriend later auditioned for The Voice in 2016, performing Anyone Who Had a Heart before judges Paloma Faith and will.i.am.

Unfortunately, Ms Farquhar did not progress too far in the BBC singing competition.

In March 2024, Ms Farquhar’s father, Ian Farquhar, died at Highgrove.

Mr Farquhar, a former army captain, rented a farmhouse on King Charles’s Gloucestershire estate and was a close friend of both the King and Queen Camilla.

He would often walk from the farmhouse to the main house for dinner, according to reports.

Queen Camilla’s ex-husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, spoke fondly of Mr Farquhar to the Mail after his death, saying: “He was wild as a hawk in his youth, but always great fun.”
