Prince William will “know exactly how” Prince George is feeling when considering the future as the young royal knows his “options [are] limited”, a royal commentator said.

George, 12, will be starting secondary school in the latter part of this year, with the future king slowly taking up more roles in royal engagements.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes that the Prince of Wales will be able to relate to his son, having been in his position before.

She told The Mirror: “It’s hard enough bringing up kids to be happy, safe and confident even in normal life.

“We can only imagine what it must be like to bring up a child who is going to hold such a unique and massively public role in life.”

Ms Bond explained that Princess Diana was in a similar position when she was raising William with the royal pressure.

She said: “It makes me think back to my conversations with Diana, Princess of Wales, who was also troubled by the weight of responsibility, both on her and her eldest son.

“I remember her telling me how the prospect of being King weighed heavily on young William’s shoulders.

“But she was immensely proud of him and told me she thought the country was lucky to have William.”

Courtesy of the Prince and Princess of Wales being in a “secure and happy marriage,” the royal commentator feels this will be “slightly easier” for William and Kate.

She continued: “William must know exactly how he might be feeling. But imagine how different it really is.

“You can’t sit down and talk about what he might like to do as a career or whether he might, for example, one day like to live in another country.

Ms Bond said George’s ‘eventual road ahead is set in concrete’

“George’s options are extremely limited, and the eventual road ahead is set in concrete.”

Given this, Ms Bond feels the Princess of Wales “is doing a fantastic job in keeping her children’s lives as normal as possible for as long as she can”.

The royal commentator said: “That is invaluable in their development. It’s a fine balance, but I think she and William have succeeded in giving all three children a very good measure of privacy whilst satisfying the media and public demands for them to be seen in public.”

Ms Bond cited the children’s behaviour at Sandringham on Christmas Day as an example of this.

Prince Louis caught royal fans’ eyes when he swiftly grabbed a chocolate gift from his father after a member of the public told the Prince of Wales the present was “for Louis”.

Footage and photographs taken outside St Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham estate show William briefly holding a red-wrapped chocolate Lindt Lindor maxi ball as the family greeted crowds following the traditional Christmas morning service.

As the Prince of Wales held the item, a royal fan could be heard indicating that the present was intended specifically for his youngest son.

The moment prompted an immediate reaction from Louis, who stepped forward and pulled the chocolate gift towards himself, clutching it with both hands as William released it.
