“It was very emotional actually and, for me, doing personal, emotional work is more fulfilling,” the prince said.
“For Lindsey, Rob and the family to ask me to come up and open the centre was not only very personally rewarding for me but really important that that circle was closed, and I really wanted to honour that.”
In the Breakfast interview, the prince also praised the courage and impact of the Scottish rugby union player, Doddie Weir, who did so much to raise awareness of MND before his death from the disease in 2022.
And there was also additional praise for William’s aunt, the Princess Royal Anne, who has supported the MND community for many years.
Royal duty can be formal, even distant at times, but the story of Rob Burrow, his family and his friend Sir Kevin has clearly made an impact on a future King.
“He’s a very kind, caring, human being but he’s still a lunatic. How he manages all these things I don’t know. He’s gold dust he really is… if you could bottle it up and sell it, it would be priceless.”
Thank You Sir Kev, Monday 26 October One 20:00 and on iPlayer
