Prince William dazzled Brazilian audiences by making a surprise appearance on a popular game show.

The Prince of Wales touched down in Rio de Janeiro for his “favourite” event of the year, saying “there is no better place” than the Brazilian city to host the Earthshot Prize Awards.

Before beginning his three days of royal engagements, William sent a video to broadcaster Luciano Huck, who is hosting the Earthshot Awards ceremony.

The prince filmed himself for the presenter’s game show, Domingao com Huck.

Dressed in a navy suit and tie, William said: “Hi Luciano, can’t wait to see you this week.

“Thank you so much for hosting the Earthshot Prize Awards on Wednesday. Can’t wait to see you there.”

The prince’s surprise appearance left audience members stunned, with one exclaiming: “Oh my god, oh my god!”

Mr Huck also revealed that William will be the special guest of an upcoming episode, airing this upcoming Sunday.

The presenter said: “Prince William, the future King of England, son of Princess Diana and King Charles III, will be in Brazil next week.

“He’s coming to Brazil to present an award called the Earthshot Prize, which recognises sustainability projects around the world.

“And he’ll be on Domingao next Sunday, he’ll be part of our mix. So, I asked him to send us a short video.”

The broadcaster will be joined by sports stars Cafu, a former Brazilian defender, and four-time Formula One world champion, Sebastian Vettel, at the event.

The prince landed today in Brazil, making the solo trip for the awards ceremony, which is heading into its fifth.

Before heading off from the UK, William said: “As I depart for Rio de Janeiro, I am excited for my first visit and to experience Brazil’s vibrant culture, its extraordinary biodiversity, and above all, the warmth of its people.

“With the world’s eyes turning to Brazil this week, there is no better place to celebrate bold climate leadership. Hosting the Earthshot Prize allows us to not only recognise those driving change, but to be inspired by them.

“When we work together with optimism and courage, a more sustainable future is within our reach.”

The prince said he wants his children ‘to grow up surrounded by nature, opportunity and a sense of hope about the future’

Speaking to Hello, the prince continued: “As a father, I think constantly about the world my children will inherit. I want them to grow up surrounded by nature, opportunity and a sense of hope about the future.

“But I also know that unless we act boldly now, that future is at risk. The Earthshot Prize is about turning the tide, about proving to our children that we are willing to fight for their tomorrow.

“Urgent optimism is the heartbeat of the Earthshot Prize. It’s the belief that although the challenges we face are immense, the solutions are within reach, and we must act with speed and conviction to bring them to life.

“It’s not blind hope. It’s hope backed by evidence, by ingenuity and by the courage of those who refuse to give up on our planet.”
