Prince William toured a semiconductor manufacturing plant in Newport today ahead of his appearance at the Wales Investment Summit, marking the country’s largest gathering since hosting NATO leaders eleven years ago.

The Prince of Wales explored KLA’s recently inaugurated facility before preparing to speak to more than 250 businesses at the International Convention Centre Wales.

The summit represents a major push by the Welsh Government to secure international funding for ventures spanning multiple industries.

His royal visit underscores the significance of an event drawing 150 companies entirely new to Wales, alongside established investors already operating in the nation.

Andrew Evans, a senior director at KLA, guided the prince through the facility where employees manufacture wafers and chips for major global semiconductor producers.

The company’s SPTS division has maintained operations in the South Wales city for over four decades, housing both manufacturing and research functions.

During his visit, William observed production areas and a demonstration laboratory whilst engaging with apprentices and recent graduates working at the site.

He also held discussions with representatives from the company’s regional supply network, highlighting the firm’s integration with local businesses.

The investment summit has attracted participants from clean energy, technology, life sciences, financial services, manufacturing and creative sectors.

Welsh Government data indicates that 1,545 foreign-owned enterprises currently operate across Wales, providing employment for over 176,500 people.

The gathering aims to showcase Wales as a destination for international investment, with organisers highlighting the nation’s technological capabilities and skilled workforce.

Representatives from Welsh green technology companies met the Prince of Wales during his venue tour.

The prince intends to highlight the nation’s collaborative approach between business, educational institutions and government bodies.

“I believe that we have reached a significant moment for Welsh investment. An opportunity defined not by the challenges we collectively face, but by extraordinary possibility,” William is expected to say.

He will describe Wales as an integrated ecosystem where various sectors operate within a unified community built on trust and practical cooperation.

The prince will conclude by stating: “It is my honour to play my part in championing the dynamic nation Wales is today as we look to the future.”
