Prince William will travel to North Wales by himself next week to highlight the challenges faced by young people in coastal communities, Kensington Palace has announced.

The prince will visit Colwyn Bay on November 25. He will join a beach walk with members of the Marine Conservation Society’s Youth Ocean Network for his first engagement of the day.

The Network comprises a team of like-minded young people aged between 13 and 25 who live near the coast and collaborate with the Marine Conservation Society to enhance youth engagement in marine conservation across the UK.

William will meet volunteers and young people who were involved in the Marine Conservations Society’s Hiraeth Yn Y Môr project that concluded in March 2025.

The project joined young people with the coastal communities of Prestatyn, Rhyl, Kimmel Bay, and Towyn, in order to grow ocean literacy, improve the sustainable management of the local marine heritage, and promote the health and well-being of connecting with the ocean.

Prince William will also hear what young people have learnt through their work on the project.

After that meeting, the 43-year-old will visit an organisation called Youth Shedz at its headquarters in Mochdre.

The organisation creates safe spaces with young people who are experiencing complex challenges, such as exclusion from school, bullying and homelessness.

Youth Shedz was founded in 2017 and aims to help children and young people who have faced adverse childhood experiences.

Children and young people who visit the shed are able to receive support to work through their issues.

They are able to join workshops, which allow them to build strong foundations to deal with their issues throughout their lives.

Prince William will take a tour of the headquarters and engage with young people who have used the service and how it has helped them build new skills, gain confidence and make a positive impact on their local community.

The Prince of Wales will also have the opportunity to try different activities that the young people undertake at the shed, including 3D printing and gaming, before seeing the Youth Shedz’s outreach bus “Betsi”, which is used to reach young people in the community.

The final event of the day will see William attend a comedy workshop run by Welsh comedian Kiri Pritchard-McLean, who is the co-founder of a comedy school in North Wales called Gwneud, Make, Do.

The school was created to open doors for people across the region, in order to allow them to develop their comedy talents and open up more opportunities for young people living in isolated rural locations, as well as those from low-income backgrounds.

At the workshop, the prince will meet aspiring comedians from the local area and hear about their aspirations and the challenges they face, with the lack of opportunities within the arts in remote coastal areas.

Prince William will then speak to Ms Pritchard-McLean about the school and how it operates across the North Wales coastal region.

They will also talk about how the school helps children try new things, such as stand-up, sketch, improvisation, comedy drama and musical comedy.

The prince’s visit aims to highlight the importance of celebrating Welsh arts and providing employment pathways for the next generations in the industry.
