Prince William and King Charles joined forces to create one of the Prince of Wales’s defining statements ahead of his trip to Brazil.

The royal has landed in Rio after boarding a commercial flight over the weekend, marking his inaugural official visit to Latin America.

He will address global leaders at COP30 and attend the Earthshot Prize ceremony in Rio de Janeiro.

Multiple discussions between Prince William and King Charles shaped the climate conference speech, with the monarch reviewing drafts beforehand.

A Palace insider confirmed both royals share a deep commitment to environmental protection.

The five-day Brazilian trip will see the prince acting as representative for both his father and the UK government.

His itinerary spans Rio de Janeiro and Belem, featuring the environmental awards ceremony on Wednesday.

The departure follows a challenging period for the monarchy, including developments concerning Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s royal status.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will accompany the prince during portions of the Brazilian visit.

Speaking before boarding, Prince William expressed enthusiasm for experiencing Brazil’s “vibrant culture” and meeting its people.

He stated: “As I depart for Rio de Janeiro, I am excited for my first visit and to experience Brazil’s vibrant culture, its extraordinary biodiversity, and above all, the warmth of its people.”

The prince emphasised Brazil’s significance as host nation, adding: “With the world’s eyes turning to Brazil this week, there is no better place to celebrate bold climate leadership.”

The awards presentation will feature notable figures including Rebeca Andrade, Brazil’s most accomplished Olympian across Latin America, and former Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel.

The prince highlighted the ceremony’s role in recognising environmental innovators, stating: “Hosting The Earthshot Prize allows us to not only recognise those driving change, but to be inspired by them.”

His message emphasised collective action: “When we work together with optimism and courage, a more sustainable future is within our reach.”

The environmental initiative has reached its midpoint, marking year five of its decade-long mission.

Event organisers have created an Earthshot Boulevard featuring environmentally conscious refreshments, including low-carbon biscuits and sustainably sourced coffee.
