The prince spoke to Kate and Jim Beavan, of Great Tre-Rhew Farm, and Jenny Knight, the director of Stump Up for Trees.

After the visit, Knight paid tribute to Prince William for “looking at not just the problems but the solutions as well”.

Representatives from the Duchy of Cornwall also joined the visit to share learning about nature recovery, climate-resilient forestry and to start a long-term partnership.

Knight added “knowledge exchange is so valuable” and said working together across different areas would have a greater impact.

At the end of the conversation, William discussed his enjoyment of cider, which is made on the farm.

“He said ‘one pint a day keeps the doctor away’,” Knight said.

Prince William also visited Herefordshire and met farmer Harry Davies, 25, who is set to lead the Duchy of Cornwall’s first regenerative farming project on a 25-year lease at the 900-acre farm.

The project aims to improve soil health and make farms more resilient to flooding and drought.

Davies said: “By us being able to hold that water in that soil profile so it doesn’t go into our rivers and streams quite so quickly, we should be able to hold the water on our land. Which in the long term will then benefit us when it’s hot and dry.

“There seems to be an opportunity to draw on experience from my Grandad’s generation, but also a bit of youth and enthusiasm is also needed. I think it’s about generations working together, that’s just farming.”
