Prince Harry’s beloved Invictus Games has announced a new partnership ahead of the 2027 event in Birmingham.

Canadian engineering firm ATCO, a global leader in housing, energy and defence solutions, has been unveiled as the 2027 Games’ International Flag Partner.

The Invictus Games Flag symbolises the courage and resilience of the thousands of Wounded, Injured, and Sick (WIS) service personnel and veterans who have participated in the Games so far.

ATCO’s involvement with the Invictus movement, which was founded by the Duke of Sussex in 2014, runs deep. The company served as Co-Presenting Partner for the Vancouver Whistler 2025 Games and has sponsored Team Canada since 2022, with that commitment extending through to 2029.

The firm also maintains an ongoing global partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation and sponsored the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards.

Nancy Southern, chief executive of ATCO for more than two decades, said: “Just as the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 honour resilience and unity, the Flag Journey is something we are immensely proud to champion, standing as a powerful testament to shared pride, cultural identity, and our unwavering commitment to veterans.

“The journey awaiting the flag bearers will challenge them in body, heart, and mind — a symbolic reminder of the immense sacrifices made by service women and men worldwide.”

The flag’s journey began in Vancouver Whistler following the 2025 Games, marking the ceremonial handover to Birmingham.

A series of extraordinary challenges now stands in the way of the flag reaching its destination in the UK’s Second City.

First, a 2,000-nautical-mile sailing expedition around the UK, which commenced on March 17, 2026, and stops at 23 ports across the nation, powered by over 70 WIS Service personnel and veterans over 12 weeks.

Just five days after the remarkable voyage, the flag then begins a 12-day mountaineering and climbing expedition on June 16.

The flag will conquer the 52 iconic peaks and summits of Scotland, Wales and England with around 120 Armed Forces WIS, aiming to achieve up to four world records and finish at the Commando Ridge, Cornwall.

Its third challenge commences on May 1, 2027: a two-day hike across the Yorkshire Dales, as 200 people from the Armed Forces WIS, serving military and cadets and the wider military charity sector look to take on the famed Three Peaks, a gruelling 42km challenge.

Finally, around 800 people from across the Armed Forces WIS community will embark on a 1200km cycle, plus a 13,000m climbing challenge, stopping at 13 military bases and the National Memorial Gardens, bringing the flag’s remarkable journey to a close on June 30, 2027.

Chris Conneally, Managing Director, Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, said: “Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 are delighted to welcome ATCO as International Flag Partner. ATCO’s commitment to the Invictus Community is both longstanding and deeply felt, and we are proud to have them with us on the journey to Birmingham 2027.”

He described the Invictus Games Flag as a “powerful symbol of the courage and resilience of every Wounded, Injured, and Sick service personnel and veteran who has participated in the Invictus Games.”

“ATCO’s partnership ensures that symbol continues to inspire as the Flag makes its way to Birmingham 2027 through a nationwide tour of extraordinary expedition challenges, connecting veterans, communities, and the enduring spirit of the Invictus Games at every step,” he added.

The Invictus Games Birmingham is due to begin on July 10, 2027, in the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), and welcome 550 competitors from 25 nations, with an estimated 150,000 supporters attending events across the city.
