Prince George officially entered his teenage years, with the Prince and Princess of Wales celebrating his 13th birthday yesterday by sharing a new photograph and a short video clip.

The portrait, captured at Kensington Palace by the couple’s trusted photographer Matt Porteous, depicted the future King George VII suited up following last month’s Trooping the Colour.

William and Catherine posted it to their social media accounts alongside the caption: “Happy 13th birthday, George!”

Later in the day, an 18-second video emerged showing George scrambling barefoot over rocks, playing cricket, petting one of the family’s dogs and enjoying a boat ride during their Easter break in Cornwall.

It was accompanied by the message: “Thank you for all the birthday wishes for George today!”

Sharp-eyed observers noticed a watch on George’s wrist during the footage, identified as the £569.99 Garmin D2 Air X15.

The smartwatch was designed with aviation enthusiasts in mind.

The brand is known for its GPS capability, robust build and biometric tracking, suggesting the young royal shares his parents’ enthusiasm for outdoor pursuits.

Garmin markets the D2 Air X15 as “the ideal blend of pilot-oriented tools and modern smartwatch design,” boasting GPS navigation, aviation weather data, a built-in LED torch and voice commands.

George’s choice of wristwatch mirrors a family preference established by his father.

Prince William has previously sported a Garmin himself but he is seldom spotted without his most prized timepiece.

The heir to the throne has worn the watch for more than a decade, including on his wedding day to Catherine and at numerous other significant occasions.

The 300m mid-size quartz model features a stainless steel case, blue dial, chronometer, uni-directional rotating bezel, screw-in crown and helium escape valve.
