Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh attended the final day of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games on Sunday.
The appearance of the royal couple marked the conclusion of the 11-day competition.
Prince Edward holds the position of Vice-Patron of Commonwealth Sport. In this capacity, the Duke of Edinburgh represents King Charles III at sporting fixtures.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh maintained a schedule of attendances throughout the 2026 Games.
Prince Edward was present at the opening ceremony on July 23. The ceremony took place at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow.
The event marked the first time a Commonwealth Games opening ceremony occurred entirely indoors.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla officially opened the event. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and First Minister of Scotland John Swinney were also in attendance.
Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport, delivered an address to the arena.

The opening broadcast featured a pre-recorded sequence with the Tardis from the television program Doctor Who, including appearances by Sir Chris Hoy, Greg McHugh, and Sylvester McCoy.
Following the July 23 opening, Edward and Sophie made additional appearances in Glasgow.
On July 30, they accompanied Princess Anne to view the hurdles, triple jump, and decathlon competitions. Prince Edward also attended bowls fixtures during the week.
The Royal Family released images of Prince Edward speaking with athletes. He was photographed meeting England para-powerlifter Mark Swan. Mr Swan secured the first gold medal of the Glasgow Games.

Other members of the Royal Family travelled to Glasgow during the competition schedule.
The Prince and Princess of Wales attended a netball semi-final match between Australia and Jamaica. They were joined by Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Before the match, Prince William and Catherine met representatives of Team Wales.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games operated on a revised format. Glasgow was designated as the host city in October 2024.
The decision followed the withdrawal of the Australian state of Victoria, which cited cost concerns.
Glasgow organisers implemented a reduced program featuring 10 sports. The operating budget was 60 per cent smaller than the budget for the 2022 edition.
The 23rd Commonwealth Games brought 3,000 athletes to Scotland. Competitors arrived from 74 nations and territories.
During the opening ceremony Parade of Nations, each team carried a King’s Baton into the central garden.
The parade was entitled “Ceud mìle fàilte” and featured a soundtrack performed by Valtos. Competitions occurred across four facilities.
The designated venues were the Scotstoun Stadium, the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, the Glasgow International Arena, and the Scottish Event Campus.
Glasgow 2026 Limited, Commonwealth Sport, and Commonwealth Games Scotland managed the operations.
The 2026 event marked the second time Glasgow hosted the Commonwealth Games. The city previously staged the competition in 2014.
