GB NEWS

A bustling Scottish beach has been sealed off after police were called to reports of an unexploded ordnance.

A Royal Navy bomb squad was called to the Esplanade at Aberdeen Beach after the force was made aware of the hazard this morning.

Police urged the public to avoid the area while the object is investigated by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, with a police cordon erected to prevent public access.

Police Scotland said in a statement: “Around 9.25am on Tuesday, June 16, we were called to a report of a suspected unexploded ordnance on Aberdeen Beach, Esplanade, Aberdeen.

“Officers are at the scene and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team have been made aware. A cordon is in place and the public is advised to avoid the area.”

It is unknown how long the area will be closed for as the bomb disposal team work to locate the ordnance and bring the situation under control.
