Drivers are being hammered at the pumps, with new data showing the price difference between petrol and diesel has reached the highest level for more than 20 years.
The latest prices from RAC Fuel Watch show that motorists are forking out an average of 179.9p for a litre of diesel, while petrol car owners are seeing costs of around 151.4p.
This massive 28.5p per litre difference is the highest level since at least 2003, as the conflict in the Middle East between Israel and the United States, and Iran rages on.
Oil refineries across the country are more focused on producing petrol compared to diesel, meaning diesel is more reliant on imports.
At a time when the global price of oil has soared above $115 (£85) again, diesel drivers will continue to be battered at the pumps.
Steve Gooding, director of the RAC Foundation, said: “Diesel is the lifeblood of millions of small businesses, but today white van man is bleeding cash just to stay on the road.
“Whether you drive or not, soaring diesel prices will take money out of your pocket, either at the pump or in the bills you pay for everything from calling out the plumber to getting a home delivery.”
He warned that petrol and diesel drivers would see aftershocks in the price of fuel within weeks, rather than months, if oil costs remain this high.

Mr Gooding also noted that 4.6 million people still rely on diesel vans, many of which are used in professional situations, potentially impacting the nation’s workforce.
Recent data from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency shows that 16.2 million diesel vehicles are licensed in the UK.
Sir Keir Starmer has maintained that the Labour Government will continue to monitor the fuel situation across the UK to ensure motorists are protected from profiteering.
GB News has rounded up the most expensive petrol and diesel prices over the weekend from around the UK, using the Government’s Fuel Finder tool.
