A 72-year-old man has been taken to hospital in critical condition after a stabbing in an alleyway.

It happened on Tuesday at 18:05 BST, on Heather Walk, Partington, Greater Manchester.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the pensioner with stab wounds, before a woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and a man on suspicion of assisting an offender, Greater Manchester Police said.

The force said the incident was isolated and posed “no wider threat to the public”.
