Matt King has provided fans with a fresh update on his recovery from a rare spinal stroke, revealing he is passing the time in hospital by ordering takeaway food and listening to music.

The update comes as Mr King continues his recovery at the Royal Sussex County Hospital following the stroke on Sunday, April 26.

The 58-year-old actor, beloved for portraying Super Hans in Peep Show, posted on X: “Right now, recovering in hospital from a stupid stroke, I’ve ordered a Subway club from Uber Eats and I’m monging out to some Mazzy Star.”

He added a more serious note to his message, writing: “Seriously though, they should find a f***ing cure. Thanks for the ongoing love.”

Mr King suffered the rare spinal cord stroke nearly two weeks ago, which initially left him unable to move.

He was rushed to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, where medical staff have been treating him since.

In his initial announcement on April 30, the actor shared a photograph from his hospital bed and confirmed the diagnosis.

“I was initially paralysed but was rushed to The Royal Sussex and the staff have been amazing,” he wrote.

Referencing a famous scene where his character Super Hans “accidentally runs to Windsor”, Mr King added: “Can walk again, a bit. My legs were jelly, man. It didn’t feel f***ing brilliant.”

According to the Brain & Spine Foundation, spinal strokes account for just 1.25 per cent of all strokes and occur when blood supply to the spinal cord is disrupted.

Supporters have flooded social media with messages of encouragement for the actor since news of his hospitalisation emerged.

One follower praised his resilience, noting that Mr King’s ability to joke about his condition despite the severity of his stroke demonstrated his inspirational character.

Fellow Peep Show cast member Vera Graziadei, who played Elena in the series, urged fans to send their support.

She wrote on Instagram: “Peeples, let’s send some prayers and love to our dear friend and bloody brilliant actor and human – Matt @thatmattkingfella who needs it now.” (sic)

Many responses referenced Mr King’s iconic character, with one fan quipping: “Nothing a relaxing hit of crack can’t fix! Get well soon.”

Mr King portrayed the eccentric, drug-fuelled musician Super Hans in the Channel 4 comedy from 2003 until 2015, appearing alongside David Mitchell and Robert Webb throughout the show’s run.

The cult sitcom, created by Andrew O’Connor, Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, followed flatmates Mark and Jez through its distinctive point-of-view filming technique.

Before his breakthrough role, Mr King spent 15 years working as a stand-up comedian after being encouraged to pursue comedy by Jimeoin McKeown while working as a chef in Australia.
