A furious driver claims he has been hit with a parking fine – despite paying for his ticket twice.

Niel Kirk, 52, was slapped with the penalty after mistakenly entering his number plate into a machine incorrectly.

However, his £2.40 fee was taken out of his account twice.

Upon his departure, Kirk realised he had entered the wrong vehicle registration details, and the payment had been processed twice.

He then received a £100 penalty notice, even after he told the firm of the “simple” error.

Kirk, from Worcestershire, insists the error “could happen to anyone” and has since pledged to boycott the car park entirely due to the “unjust” fine.

He explained: “We got a text receipt to confirm we had paid for the parking and our bank statement shows the payment came out twice.

“When we realised it was the wrong registration, we replied to the text to explained, but about a month later, we got a £100 fine through the post.

“We realised it must have been a number you can’t reply to, but thought it would be an easy fine to resolved as it was just a simple mistake.”

Kirk appealed the fine, once again explaining the situation and supplying proof to show they had paid.

However, the appeal was rejected.

Kirk, the senior project manager, then contacted the Euro Car Parks’ managing director, who once again informed him payment of the fine was required.

He added: “After submitting the evidence, Euro Car Parks offered to reduce the fine to £20.

“In hindsight, I probably should have paid the reduced amount, but we paid for the parking.

“They almost acknowledged this by reducing the fine, so it feels so unfair to still have to pay.”

Kirk said he was informed he was in breach of contract by entering the wrong details, and called Euro Car Parks unresponsive and “uncompromising”.

He said: “It is unscrupulous and so draconian.”

The 52-year-old said the letters were “scary” as they threatened to increase the fine if left unpaid.

Having noticed the lack of use since the payment machines had been changed, he said: “It will start having a negative impact on businesses and I really think the owners need to review the changes that have been made.”

Weavers Wharf is under the ownership of LCP Estates Ltd, a division of M Core, with Euro Car Parks overseeing the car park management.

A spokesman for Weavers Wharf said: “We are sorry to hear about this individual’s experience; however, the car park at Weavers Wharf is managed independently by Euro Car Parks.

“We understand the matter has been raised directly with Euro Car Parks, who are best placed to respond.”

GB News has approached Euro Car Parks for comment.
