Paedophile nursery worker Vincent Chan has been charged with 15 new sexual offences against children.

The 45-year-old received the additional charges relating to possession of indecent images of children and acts of outraging public decency.

Previously, Chan pleaded guilty to 26 criminal charges at Wood Green Crown Court after recording himself sexually abusing four young children.

He now faces nine new counts of taking an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child, with some material falling into the most serious category of abuse.

Six charges of acts of outraging public decency have also been made against Chan.

They relate to nine separate girls, the Metropolitan Police said.

Scotland Yard informed the charges relate to offences that predate those which Chan has already pleaded guilty to.

They also did not take place at the West Hampstead nursery where his previous crimes were committed.

The force explained that officers are continuing their investigation.

Chan faces sentencing at Wood Green Crown Court on January 23.

He had been employed at a Bright Horizons nursery in West Hampstead, northwest London, for close to seven years before his crimes came to light.

His initial arrest occurred in June 2024 when a colleague reported disturbing behaviour.

Chan had filmed a child falling asleep in their food, added music to the footage, and shown the clip to another staff member.

Officers initially detained him on suspicion of neglect before releasing him on bail.

He subsequently lost his position at the nursery, which has since permanently closed.

Police submitted his electronic devices for forensic examination in September 2024.

Detective Superintendent Lewis Bamford described the case as ‘one of the most horrific crimes imaginable’

Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford of the Metropolitan Police described child sexual abuse as “one of the most horrific crimes imaginable,” noting Chan’s offending revealed a deliberate and predatory pattern spanning years.

“He infiltrated environments that should have been safe havens for children, exploiting the trust of families and the wider community to conceal his actions and prey on the most vulnerable,” the officer said.

Detective Superintendent Basford paid tribute to the staff member whose initial report about the filmed incident ultimately exposed the abuse, stating that without that first complaint about child cruelty, Chan could have continued offending and endangered countless more children.

A Bright Horizons spokesman described the crimes as “horrific” and a “profound betrayal” of trust placed in Chan by families and colleagues.

The company stated it maintains extensive safeguarding measures, including rigorous vetting and DBS checks, and has commissioned an independent review of its procedures
